Selection crisis: NUC mandates UI to appoint acting VC

Following the crisis that trailed the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor for the University of Ibadan, UI, that led to the process becoming inconclusive. the National Universities Commission, NUC, has directed the Governing Council of the university to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka, on Monday, November 30. he directive became expedient, following the deadlock in the appointment of a new VC to replace Olayinka, whose term expires on Monday. The Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, in a letter dated 27th November 2020 and addressed to the Pro-Chancellor of the University, said the appointment of an acting vice-chancellor was to avoid a vacuum in the administration of the university. CBN set to screen bank workers for competence

  Bank workers are about to have their capabilities to work in the industry reviewed. This means that only those with the competence to carry out banking activities will be allowed to work as bankers while promotion will also be based on the level of competence of individual bankers. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has written to all banks and other financial institutions to furnish it with details of their staff competence levels. According to a letter dated November 26, 2020, signed by Dr. Kevin Amugo, Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, the CBN wrote to the financial institutions that it has “commenced the review of the extant framework and would be delighted to receive your input”. In the latest Republican lawsuit attempting to thwart president-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the battleground state, the state supreme court unanimously threw out the three-day-old order, saying the underlying lawsuit was filed months after the law allowed for challenges to Pennsylvania’s year-old mail-in voting law. Justices also remarked on the lawsuit’s staggering demand that an entire election be overturned retroactively. “They have failed to allege that even a single mail-in ballot was fraudulently cast or counted,” justice David Wecht wrote in a concurring opinion. The state’s attorney general, Democrat Josh Shapiro, called the court’s decision “another win for democracy”. The 10 swing state counties t
