  UNN ASUU, residents urge FG to prevent another strike July 27, 2021 The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) chapter, has advised the Federal Government to take steps to avert another nationwide strike by the union. The UNN chapter Chairman, Dr Christian Opata, gave the advice on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka. Opata spoke against the backdrop of the recent threat by ASUU to resume the strike suspended on Dec. 24, 2020. He described federal government’s failure to fulfill agreements entered with the union since 2009 as unfortunate. He said that federal government would not be exonerated “if the union resumes another strike because of its inability to fulfill an agreement with it”.   Tambuwal urges ASUU to devise other means of industrial action, not strikes By Musa Annabi – Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to deploy better ways of engaging the Federal government than the perennial strikes it often embarks on to press its demands. Governor Tambuwal made the plea while receiving the new executives of the Sokoto State University chapter of the union on Thursday. He appealed to the union to develop some skills of negotiations geared towards arriving at consensus and common ground between it and governments at various levels other than the strike. THE  national Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Sunday Asefon as its new President amid chaos and violence that characterised its convention at the old parade ground, Abuja on Thursday. Asefon, a civil servant with the Ekiti State Government, got 155 votes to defeat his closest rival, Olushola Oladoja, who scored 100 votes.
