SSANU, NASU members sweep Prof Olayinka’s feet out of office

As the tenure of Professor Idowu Olayinka, the 12th Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan terminates on Monday, non-academic staff unions under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities of the institution bid him a symbolic farewell protest of “sweeping his feet out of office”. Carrying brooms and singing various solidarity and farewell songs, to indicate their ‘cleansing’ of the university after Olayinka’s exit, the members of the unions, who converged on the NISER Garden venue of the farewell rally as early as 9 am, matched to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor around 12:30 pm, singing to register their pleasure and rejection of the reign of the outgoing VC whose five-year-tenure ended on yesterday. NSPRI: Each corps member to get N2 million for agriculture

The Federal Government has said that it will empower members of the National Youth Service Corps that venture into agriculture after their one year mandatory service with the sum of N2m. The Executive Director, Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Dr. Patricia Pessu, disclosed this on Monday while speaking at a workshop on value addition of agricultural commodities for 40 corps members selected from the 16 local government areas of Kwara State. Pessu said the two corps members, who completed their service in Oyo and Abia states respectively, had begun to benefit from the programme, stating that they were selected from the last batch of trainees at NSPRI. He decried increasing number of unemployed youth in the country and added that a similar opportunity awaited any trainee of the current batch who submitted a promising proposal at the end of the service year. Selection crisis: NUC mandates UI to appoint acting VC

Following the crisis that trailed the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor for the University of Ibadan, UI, that led to the process becoming inconclusive. the National Universities Commission, NUC, has directed the Governing Council of the university to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka, on Monday, November 30. he directive became expedient, following the deadlock in the appointment of a new VC to replace Olayinka, whose term expires on Monday. CBN set to screen bank workers for competence

  Bank workers are about to have their capabilities to work in the industry reviewed. This means that only those with the competence to carry out banking activities will be allowed to work as bankers while promotion will also be based on the level of competence of individual bankers. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has written to all banks and other financial institutions to furnish it with details of their staff competence levels. According to a letter dated November 26, 2020, signed by Dr. Kevin Amugo, Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, the CBN wrote to the financial institutions that it has “commenced the review of the extant framework and would be delighted to receive your input”. In the latest Republican lawsuit attempting to thwart president-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the battleground state, the state supreme court unanimously threw out the three-day-old order, saying the underlying lawsuit was filed months after the law allowed for challenges to Pennsylvania’s year-old mail-in voting law. Justices also remarked on the lawsuit’s staggering demand that an entire election be overturned retroactively. “They have failed to allege that even a single mail-in ballot was fraudulently cast or counted,” justice David Wecht wrote in a concurring opinion.
