In 2004, Melissa Stockwell became the first woman to lose a limb in active combat when an IED exploded during her daily convoy in Baghdad, Iraq – just a month after being deployed there. Her life took a turn, but she was determined to still follow her childhood Olympic dreams. She’s competed in two Paralympic Games since then, and now has her sights set on her third Games in Tokyo, delayed due to COVID-19 until this summer.
